I rarely pay attention to lyrics in a song (something my wife does not understand) as I care more about the riffs, the sound, the texture. I believe Stewart Copeland and Sting had the same divergence. I’m clearly team Copeland (one of my all time favourite drummers), but you can’t deny how good Sting’s lyrics are in De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da:
“Poets, priests and politicians Have words to thank for their positions Words that scream for your submission And no one’s jamming their transmission
And when their eloquence escapes you Their logic ties you up and rapes you”
…and it’s a fabulous song :)
