The tools and defaults shape what you notice, what you remember, what you have time to think about. Most people treat this as background. It isn’t. It’s infrastructure. Infrastructure serves someone’s interests.
Some people build their own. Not because they enjoy configuration. Because they’ve noticed what changes when the environment belongs to them.
I run my workflow on tools I chose, in a vault I control, with an AI assistant I configured myself. This morning I found a gap. A cloud sync layer was silently blocking a workflow I had designed. I found it, diagnosed it, and I know exactly how to fix it.
That’s what sovereignty looks like in practice. Not a manifesto. A debugging session.
The question isn’t whether someone designed it. It’s whether you did.
